There is something magical that you feel within, when you serve someone with no expectation of return. It is an honest, pure feeling that pervades every cell of your body. For a moment, you may even be aware that you are larger than your physical body. In this moment, you become aware of the interconnectedness of all that exists, even if this awareness is subconscious. It is in this moment that you feel yourself “Sparkle with a divine lustre.”
There is an unlimited variety of ways we can engage in selfless service. It is easy to start small by incorporating random acts of kindness into your day. We are constantly given opportunities every day to help others. It’s just a matter of seeing the opportunities and allowing our actions to follow through. Helping an elderly person with their shopping trolley, stopping to pick up a piece of rubbish, offering a smile when our eyes meet someone else’s, donating your change to a charity. Though these may seem insignificant, each act reduces the suffering of others. Never underestimate the powerful effect of one small good deed.
As part of my ongoing commitment to give back because I have been given so much, I have aligned myself with a few charities.
SHARING THE MEAL
This is a meal program in Redfern whereby each Tuesday and Friday morning the community in Redfern come together to share a meal and some time together. Though there is a well organised system in place, this group needs top ups of financial support. Feel free to contact me directly with financial donations or come to a Laughter Yoga session where you can laugh with others and is you so choose, make a donation to the Sharing the Meal program.
KICK START KIDS INTERNATIONAL
A couple of young school leavers rescued some orphans in Kenya back in 2007 and from that, this charity was born.
LINDFIELD LAUGHTER CLUB (Founded 2011)
Laughter Clubs are a free community service provided by Laughter Yoga Teachers or Leaders. A Laughter Club is a social club to which anyone can belong. The aim of Laughter Clubs is to provide an environment in which people can come together and laugh freely and deeply with gay abandon. These clubs also provide a rich network of people who care for each other. By coming together to laugh, we create a positive environment whereby each person in the group is perceived in their best light. It is a great environment in which to help build your own self esteem and that of others.
